We are not financial advisors, so we are not discussing this level of business planning.

Other articles in this knowledge base are discussing mundane tasks like screen layouts.

Knowing in advance “how” you are going to be making sales will heavily dictate how you set up YumaPOS.

Let’s look at this by example.

Everybody knows pizza and what a “Large Hawaiian” is. Whether pineapple belongs on a pizza is a rabbit hole I am not going down today.

Peter’s Perfect Pizzas

Peter took months planning his new business, weeks sourcing ovens and kitchenware,  takes days hiring the right staff, spent a small fortune with designers on the perfect logo  for “Peter’s Perfect Pizzas”, discusses the colour of walls endlessly with his significant other, ….

Peter Needs a POS & eftPOS

On Tuesday, Peter asks YumaPOS to provide the POS hardware and software, along with YumaPAY as the eftPOS solution.

Peter’s Perfect Pizzas has a grand opening, covered by media releases on Friday.

Peter has taken month’s to prepare his business, but leaves the POS solution until the final week ?

Do not be surprised – this happens all the time to us 😐

YumaPOS & YumaPAY

YumaPOS assign an Account Manager to Peter’s Perfect Pizzas, who wants to know some basic information about how Peter sees his business trading in 6 and 12 months time. While most responses won’t affect the layout of the POS ( eg Inventory Control ), the one that definitely needs to be thought about is :

“In 6 or 12 months, do you want to be selling online ? Whether that be via your own Landing Page, WWW with the eSHOP attached, Mobile Customer App, QR Ordering, Self Service Kiosks, free integration into Uber AU ?

Peter, who is feeling the pressure of opening at the end of the week, replies “no – not at all – only in-store – with counter service”.

No Customer Facing App / Involvement

Based on Peter’s responses and the very short time frame, the Account Manager may create the YumaPOS App something like this ….

Putting every possible NO into the same COMMON MODIFER GROUP makes perfect sense based on Peter’s future planning. It doesn’t matter that the Hawaiian Pizza doesn’t have most of these toppings. The cashier is smart enough to know this. There are also no pretty images or enticing descriptions  added in the BOM. Peter is not trying to sell to the cashier. The CUSTOMER sees none of this, so it doesn’t really matter.

Customer Facing App / Involvement

Peter’s Perfect Pizza is a roaring success. His business plan has allowed the business to concentrate on its goals and is growing faster than anticipated.

Peter contacts his YumaPOS Account Manager and says something like …

“We need to urgently add online ordering via our website. For the last few months, we have long queues out the door on a Friday night, we need to find a way for walk-ins to place and pay for an order quickly. Can you assist with that ?”

YumaPOS make a few setting changes in Peter’s TENANT, adds some HTML Code to his website, creates a QR Code to add to in-store “Queue Jumper” posters and voila ! Peter’s Perfect Pizza now has online ordering.

In less than an hour – Yep, YumaPOS can get you online that quickly.

Hang on … this doesn’t look right !

  • There are no beautifully crafted images of Peter’s delicious pizzas.
  • There are no carefully constructed descriptions that make them irresistable.
  • Why is the CUSTOMER being offered to remove bacon from a vegetarian pizza ?
  • The CUSTOMER wonders if Peter’s Perfect Pizzza is really for that perfect and orders from a pizza shop that makes sense.

Peter needs this to be working for the long weekend- which is 2 days away !

The YumaPOS team are good, but even miracles take a bit of time to perform.

For each ITEM. we need to :

  • add a beautiful image
  • create a description that makes the CUSTOMER want to add the ITEM to their cart
  • create separate NO lists for each flavour of pizza

All of this could have been pre-configured in the BOM, ready to enable, had YumaPOS known the goal.

If only Peter had spent half as much time deciding what he wanted to be doing in 6 months time, as he spent on choosing the colour of his walls.
