Great Structure Makes Selling Easier
Introduction
What the BOM says, is what your APPS will see and show.
A bit of thought & planning can go a long way in making it easier for your CUSTOMER to buy ITEMS, faster for your STAFF to process an ORDER & easier for you to identify issues.
Is it important to get it right from day one ?
Nope, you can always modify the layout / format later.
Category Structure
Sure, you could put every ITEM into the same place, but can you imagine the mess and the clutter your APPs would be ?
I see 4 main goals in using a series of logical CATEGORIES :
Sales Optimisation
Where ITEMS are barcoded, you can just scan them. Where they are not, your cashier needs a logical structure so they can select the ITEM on the POS APP.
- Breakfast would only contain relevant ITEMS like “Big Breakfast”
- Hire Fees would only contain relevant ITEMS like “Go Kart 1hour”.
Operational Efficiency
By grouping common items ( eg kegs, bulk nuts, consumables ), you make it easier to find items, identify sales trends, assign COMMON MODIFIERS to “like” products.
This in turn leads to better decision making and ensuring necessary sales data is captured and passed onto production ( eg extra shot, yellow, well-done ).
Improved Customer Experience
Efficient cashiers who can quickly process an ORDER correctly, result in happier customers.
While your cashiers may know where you have placed an item on the POS, if customers are using YumaPOS eSHOP or self-serve Kiosk, the customer has no idea.
By creating a logical grouping and flow, you are also creating happier customers.
A restaurant or pizza shop, would usually use the same lay-out as their menu or menu-boards eg Lunch or Large Pizzas.
- An hobby retailer might use categories and sub-categories
- Jigsaws / 1000pce
- Jigsaws / 10,000pce
- Models / Planes
- Models / Boats
- A cafe or restaurant would usually use the same layout as their menu
- Breakfast Menu
- Entrees
- Large Pizza
- Iced Drinks
Data Driven Insights
“It was busy today, we sold a lot of coffee”.
Did you ? Maybe you staff were just busy fixing mis-makes.
Rather than using “gut-feel”, use properly structured categories to report on activity.
You may well find that while your baristas were very busy, it is not reflected in the sales figures.
